Hypnotherapy - Work with your subconscious to change unhelpful patterns
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help you address unhelpful patterns of thought, emotion, or behaviour. If you prefer a calmer, less analytical approach to therapy, this may be suitable for you. Sessions vary from person to person, but over time hypnotherapy can help reduce automatic stress responses and support lasting change.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a goal-focused therapeutic approach that draws on elements of solution-focused therapy, neuroscience, and positive psychology. Rather than dwelling on problems, it focuses on creating positive change by helping you use your internal resources and strengths more effectively. It is often chosen by people who prefer a forward-looking therapy that helps them feel more empowered and in control.
You will work with both talking therapy and guided relaxation techniques. Sessions focus on identifying goals, recognising positive changes, and reinforcing new patterns of thinking and responding. Hypnotherapy is used to help you enter a deeply relaxed, focused state, where positive suggestions and solutions can be more easily integrated. All work is tailored to your individual needs and delivered in line with professional and ethical standards. The number of sessions will vary depending on your goals and progress, but hypnotherapy is commonly used as a short-term, structured intervention.
How Hypnotherapy Works
Hypnotherapy sessions typically follow a clear and consistent structure.
The initial session focuses on understanding your goals and explaining how hypnotherapy works. You will be guided through the therapeutic process and provided with a relaxation recording to use between sessions.
Subsequent sessions usually involve two main elements:
Talking therapy
We review progress since the previous session, focusing on positive changes, steps taken towards your goals, and strategies to support further improvement. This part of the session draws on principles from solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches, and positive psychology.
Guided relaxation (trance)
You are guided into a calm, relaxed state of focused awareness. In this state, the mind is often more receptive to positive suggestions and new perspectives, helping to reinforce the work done during the talking part of the session
Hypnotherapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:
- Anxiety or ongoing stress
- Sleep difficulties or problems relaxing
- Low confidence or self-esteem
- Phobias or strong emotional reactions
- Habitual patterns you would like to change
- Smoking Cessation
- Phobias
Hypnotherapy is particularly suited to people who prefer a therapy that is practical, structured, and focused on creating positive change rather than analysing difficulties in depth.
